TI-84: LinRegTTest (Significance Testing a Correlation)

In this video, we learn how to use the LinRegTTest function on the TI-84 to calculate a P-value for a 2-tailed hypothesis test for the significance of a correlation.

We are given a small set of ordered pair data (hours studied for x - the independent variable, and score on a midterm exam for y - the dependent variable).

We perform a hypothesis test where the null hypothesis is that the population correlation coefficient is zero and the alternative hypothesis is that the population correlation coefficient is different from zero (a two-tailed test).

We show how to enter ordered pair data in the TI84 and apply the LinRegTTest function to calculate the t-score and P-value, and we interpret the results of the hypothesis test by comparing the P value to the significance level, then interpreting the results in context.
