Topdressing a Lawn - When, Why and How to Level Your Lawn

Topdressing a lawn is hard work. If you are looking to level your lawn, then top dressing is probably one of the best options. Actually the word leveling your lawn is a little deceiving. It may not be level when you are done, but hopefully it will be smooth. Then is great for clean cut to help not scalp the lawn. It also can make riding on a lawn mower a much more pleasant experience since the ride won't be as bumpy. In this video, I am using a lawn leveling rake as well as a mix of topsoil, sand and soil conditioner. This leveling mix is better than just sand in my opinion because it has more nutrients. Sand is awesome for leveling but doesn't contain much nutrients for the turfgrass. Topsoil can be lumpy and hard to spread. This mixture gives some of the better qualities of both. The level rake is great for small to medium jobs. A larger drag may serve you better when trying to cover a larger area.
