Never use the furnace or AC system without a filter in place

Never, ever run the AC or furnace without a filter in place. This is not the place to be cheap and it WILL lead to higher utility bills and damage to the system. You will cause a lot of dust/dirt/hair to accumulate on the blower fins, the heater coils, the A/C evaporator coils, and the air ducts. This will cause you to spend more money in heating and cooling costs at a minimum. And costs quite a bit to have the system cleaned out. Ultimately this can lead to the destruction of the AC system with huge repair bills.

Filters are relatively cheap and super easy to replace. Don't try and clean non-reusable filters, there is no way to get all of the dirt removed from them and can damage the filter media.
