Number one is when Valverde donates his prize money to the Scarponi family
Valverde outsprinted Dan Martin to win Liege-Bastogne-Liege for the fourth time.
Valverde dedicated his triumph to Michele Scarponi, who died after being hit by a van while training in Italy. Valverde announced before the race that he would contribute the prize money if he won, and in an emotional interview that he would dedicate his whole week's profits to the Scarponi family after winning La Fleche Wallonne earlier that week.

After the second climb of the day, Cote de Sant-Roch, Movistar and TeamSky chased a breakaway of 8 riders. Movistar worked hard for Valverde; with 48 kilometres to go, the breakaway must have thought they could stay away.
