Near-Death Experience and the Origins of Afterlife Beliefs | Gregory Shushan, PhD

Join us for a captivating talk with award-winning author and historian of religions Gregory Shushan, PhD, as he explores the historical, cultural, and religious dimensions of near-death experiences (NDEs). Drawing on decades of research, Dr. Shushan examines the fascinating relationship between NDEs and beliefs about the afterlife, uncovering both striking similarities and profound differences across civilizations—from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and China to Indigenous traditions in North America, Africa, and Oceania. This often-overlooked area of religious history offers deep insights into humanity’s oldest questions about life, death, and what lies beyond.
