Working Colts In The Donut

July 31, 2020 - Back to the donut! The donut is one of my favorite colt starting techniques. It was taught to me by my college instructor, Brett Badgett, and the method ultimately comes from Brett’s teacher, Jeff Griffith.

In this clip I’m riding Joker and moving Seven and Patriot around with saddles. This video was taken just before Seven’s second ride. This was the first time Patriot had ever worn a saddle, and he moved out smooth and easy, where Seven took a little more effort to really find a lope.
