Today, we will discuss how to assess egg quality and the different tests available for it.

There are four key tests that help determine a woman's egg quality:

1️⃣ Age – The Most Natural Indicator
A woman’s age plays a crucial role in egg quality.
Younger women (22–24 years) have the best-quality eggs and the highest chances of pregnancy.
However, many women now get married around the age of 30, which is why fertility issues are becoming more common.
As age increases, egg quality tends to decline.
2️⃣ AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) Blood Test
This test helps assess ovarian reserve (the number of eggs left in the ovaries).
The normal AMH range is 2 to 3.5 ng/mL.
Low AMH ( less 2 ng/mL) may indicate a decline in egg quality.
High AMH (High 3.5 ng/mL) may be a sign of PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome).
3️⃣ Antral Follicle Count (AFC) – Ultrasound Test
Done on Day 2 of the menstrual cycle, this ultrasound counts the number of follicles in both ovaries.
A good ovarian reserve means 5–7 follicles per ovary.
If the count is 2–3 follicles per ovary, the reserve is considered low.
4️⃣ IVF Cycle – The Ultimate Test for Egg Quality
During an IVF cycle, eggs are retrieved and examined under a microscope.
This is the most accurate way to determine egg quality because ultrasound scans only show follicles, not actual eggs.
Once retrieved, eggs can be visually assessed to confirm whether they are healthy and viable for fertilization.
