GPS TRACKER INSIDE CATFISH ENDS UP MAPPING FULL RIVER ROUTE 🐟😳📍

Wildlife biologists in eastern Tennessee tagged a sixty-pound blue catfish with a GPS transponder in March 2022. The fish swallowed the unit whole instead of letting it attach to the dorsal fin. Over nineteen months, the catfish traveled 1,247 miles of the Hiwassee River system—tributaries, oxbows, and flooded storm drains nobody knew connected to the watershed. Its route mapped forty-six previously undocumented channels. The Army Corps of Engineers said the data would have cost $3.2 million to collect by survey boat. They caught the fish again in October 2023, the transponder still transmitting. The biologist who retrieved it said, "Honestly, we should hire him." They named the catfish Gerald.
