Eccleston's Time on Doctor Who (and his not returning)

It's no secret that fans of Doctor Who have long been clamoring for him to return to the role of the 9th Doctor. We crossed our fingers for the 50th anniversary special, some are still holding out hope for Big Finish, others are clinging to the fact that he's doing conventions these days. But he has yet to actually return, and his recent autobiography may have shed some light onto one of the reasons for that.
