Spring Work in Remote Alaska | Pack Horses, Birch Syrup & Fire Cooked Moose
The sap is running—it’s time to tap the birch trees. Last year, we gathered hundreds of gallons to boil down, and we’re kicking off syrup season once again.
We’re also getting back to work with the horses—especially Sanford and Drum—as they head into their first real season as pack horses.
Dennis set up a hot fence for the big boys, and they made the most of it, stretching their legs after a long winter.
We wrapped up the day with a campfire moose skillet, olive and herb sourdough, and a hot cup of tea—about as good as it gets on a spring evening at the homestead!
Til next week,
-Dennis, Amy & Lena
