Candidates Test for 🧨EXTREMA🧨! 😎😎 #apcalculus #apcalc #unit5 #shorts
The Candidates Test finds the highest and lowest points of a function within a specific interval. It simplifies the search for absolute extrema by focusing on two main types of points: 1) the endpoints of the interval, and 2) any critical points within the interval. Critical points are where the function changes direction or where its derivative equals zero, signaling potential local maxima or minima.
The relevance of a critical point as a candidate depends on its inclusion within the given interval. If the interval excludes a critical point, such as in a modified interval that only includes one critical point or none at all, our candidates for absolute extrema adjust accordingly. This nuance is key to accurately applying the Candidates Test and ensuring that our analysis of absolute extrema is both thorough and precise.
