An abandoned residential house located in the Severny urban locality near Vorkuta, was filmed on Monday covered with frost, ice, and stalactites.

The footage shows that the once inhabited apartment building has turned into an ice cave with big icicles - stalactites, hanging from the ceiling of the entrance hall. The stairways and entrances to the apartments are also seen covered with ice and snow.

Apparently, some apartments are still supplied with water, which was seen pouring from pipes on the floor, flooding the apartments and furniture, abandoned by the residents.

The Severny urban locality, which is located above the Arctic Circle, was founded in the late 1940s during the development of rich coal deposits. However, in the 1990s the production of coal dramatically decreased, and many industrial enterprises were closed in the area. After a major accident in the Severnaya coal mine, which occurred on February 25, 2016, and killed dozens of miners and rescue workers, the mine was closed. According to the data, there are about eight thousand people living in the Severny urban locality at the moment, and many continue to depart from the area, turning the place into a ghost town.
