By no means do I make proper 'laid hedges' like folks traditionally do, but the system we're working on the boundaries of the 6 acre main site has been functional and easy to work with over the years. Getting permission from our neighbor to prune some of the wild 'edge' of their property has let us generate a much much thicker wall of brush to catch snow, slow wind, provide privacy, create habitat for rabbits, birds and others, and have a place where slow and steady decomposition can eventually form a very deep and nutrient dense berm of soil between our two properties, helping to filter any residue from their conventional orchard. That, and I love the look of a nice brush wall :)
