Books That Make Me Horny 📚💦| Hannah Witton

Autumn making you want to cosy up with a book? What about a HORNY book? So many different things can turn us on in fiction even if we wouldn't want them irl so here's some books that have got me hot and bothered: the good, the horny, and the... problematic. 📚💦

Response to criticism of video (01/10/20):

Hi, I've seen the concerns about my latest video. Here's my response. Thanks for reading.

MLM fetishisation - thank you for raising this, whilst obviously this wasn't intended after learning more about the fetishisation/sexualisation of gay men, especially by straight women, I'm really sorry about this. From my (limited) understanding, fetishisation is when you're only interested in one aspect of someone's identity (in this case, the sex/romance lives of gay men) and not interested in them as whole human beings or fighting against their oppression. Whilst I'm not perfect (no-one is btw!) and will continue to make mistakes and learn from them, I am committed to using my platform and privilege to support the LGBTQ+ community (from representation in books to sex education and everything inbetween). I could have been more aware of this when picking the titles for this video and I'm sorry that I wasn't, will always strive to do better in the future.

YA books/teenage characters - I rewatched the video with special attention to what I said about the 4 YA books I mentioned. With the exception of Ari & Dante (which in the video I specifically say it didn't make me horny but made it on the list because of the emotional intensity), all the books contain either sex scenes, heavy flirting or sexually suggestive interactions. Books have the power to really transcend you into the characters' lives, what they are thinking and feeling. And a good book makes you feel those things too. As a reader, I don't feel like I responded inappropriately to any of these books. As a YouTuber, I'm not coming into a minors-only space with this video, the vast majority of my audience (96.5%) are over 18 years old, however, to be safe I'm going to age-restrict the video so that no minors who are looking for videos about some of their favourite books find this video.

"I need some hot lesbian books on my list, please recommend me" - this was a poorly phrased "joke" that didn't land well. However, I stand by the sentiment that I would love to read more WLW books as part of my on-going commitment to diversify my reading. And thanks to the people who left lots of great recommendations in the comments!

Deleted comments - I only saw the comments this morning, hours after ones claiming I'd been deleting them. I was offline/asleep so I definitely wasn't. YouTube sometimes automatically picks up "inappropriate" comments and hides them.

The video was about how what turns us on isn't necessarily what we want IRL and how we can feel a lot of shame because of this. This was mentioned at the beginning and throughout the video. I would recommend listening to the podcast episode with Dr Lori Beth Bisbey that I talked about in the video all about sexual fantasies and shame.

After having a look through books on my shelf/books I've read, it turns out most of the LGBTQ+ fiction/characters come from YA books. I think YA can be so great for representation and tackling social justice narratives and also, it's a genre that I enjoy. I've definitely read less adult fiction with the same amount of representation, but I'm always open to recommendations!

So to be clear, the video is staying up but it'll be age-restricted. I'll leave this statement as a pinned comment (if word count allows) under the video and put it in the video description. I’ve changed the thumbnail of the video to avoid people jumping to conclusions before watching and I'm also going to delete my tweets promoting the video to avoid the video being shared further without the context of this statement.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate your time. Hannah x
