Four bushi from Japan's ancient to modern periods. I've kinda shied away from calling them samurai because the term didn't firmly come in until after the ancient period, and bushi has always been a more common catch all term.

The second figure is from the Nara period, which has given us very few surviving pieces of armour, and no distinct style of armour either. Common soldiers wore some sort of quilted suit, while aristocratic warriors as shown here might've made due with older styles, or customised suits of armour.
