Knitting a Double Strand Sock Blank on a Singer Crank Knitting Machine

Let's create a homemade double strand knit sock blank for dyeing! In this video, I will knit a double stranded blank with KnitPicks Imagination Yarn http://shrsl.com/rd40 (Fingering weight, 50% merino Wool, 25% Alpaca, 25% Nylon) on my Singer hand crank knitting machine http://amzn.to/2EpdKhx (Affiliate Links). Sock Blanks, and other pre knit blanks, are fantastic dyeing tools because you can dye your yarn in fantastic gradients or random asymmetric patterns. With double stranded blanks, you can dye identical skeins of yarn that are prefect for socks, mittens, or even making a symmetrical scarf or cowl. Unfortunately, there are limited options for purchasing commercially knit blanks, so if you make your own you can select whatever type of fiber content you want!

UPDATE AFTER UNRAVELING A BLANK:
So I just unraveled a hand made stroll sock blank that had a bunch of mistakes in it (dropped stitches etc) and it took me about 2x as long to unravel. Having a chip clip on hand to hold the blank together so you can let gravity help you untwist the strands helps a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JbVLSKk3Xk

I think that next time I will try starting from 2 different center pull balls (versus one) as I make a double stranded blank so it will be a bit easier to untwist the two strands. (Or else I might just purchase sock blanks! http://shrsl.com/o7lp - KnitPicks Affiliate Link). It all comes down to what is worth it to you for your time and effort.

I do not recommend using the singer knitting machine to create double stranded blanks out of worsted weight yarn, although I have had a lot of success with making single strand worsted blanks. I have not tested making sport or DK weight double stranded blanks on this machine.
