Release of Sea Turtles, La Union

While on vacation at La Union, we were given a welcome surprise: sea turtles had just hatched, and they needed to be released immediately into the ocean. The CURMA (Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions) released two hundred or so olive ridley sea turtles into the ocean. The family that sponsored this batch of turtles were on hand to witness their release.
According to the spokesperson, the turtles have a boost of energy after birth which lasts about an hour, and it is crucial that the turtles get into the ocean in that short time window. CURMA says that they are currently managing 7,000 or so eggs in their conservation efforts.
