What is cardiac preload, afterload and cardiac output?

- Cardiac output is the amount of blood out of the heart in 1 full minute.
- Preload is the stretching of myocardial heart muscle cells before contraction.
- Afterload is all the force or “load” that the ventricles have to push against or “overcome” to eject blood out of the heart, to the rest of the body.
