Cuba Railroad - Habana to Cienaga

Taken in January 2009 over two days of much waiting! The train shown ran between Habana and San Antonio de los Banos. The Havana Terminal is very basic and the shots from the train reflect the quality of the track. The train is travelling between Habana and Cienaga passing some very derelict former GDR Railbuses. The people were wonderfully friendly to an Englishman abroad and the place is full of interest to the railway enthusiast. The locomotive was supplied by the USSR from the Bryansk Locomotive Works. The shots from the interior were taken over a bed that had been loaded on by some passengers transporting it to San Antonio and it provided some comfort against the spartan coach interiors. The waiting was because this departure was at some variance with published timetables!
