SADDLE HUNTING For BEGINNERS! Everything You Need To Get Started
In this video we have Cameron Derr of Exodus Trail Cameras on to talk about how to get started saddle hunting. Cameron transitioned to almost exclusively deer hunting out of a tree saddle three years ago and is here to teach you how to get started.
The first thing you will need is obviously a tree saddle. There are plenty of options on the market but there are three basic models.
- Single Panel Saddle
- Two panel Saddle
- Pleated Saddle
For beginners, two panel saddles and pleated saddles offer the most adjustability, and comfort. Cameron is running the Cruzr XC which is a pleated saddle.
Whichever saddle you come with, they will likely come with two ropes. You will need a Tether and a linesman's rope. Those are the two most important ropes for saddle hunting.
Once you have all of that set, you will need a way to get up the tree and something to stand on when you get up the tree.
Cameron is using the Hunting Beast Gear climbing sticks, and the Trophy Line EDP platform. The total weight is under 10lbs of gear making the setup extremely lightweight and mobile.
Saddle hunting isn't for everyone, but I would say give it a try before you completely dismiss it!
