Schubert: 8 Variations on an Original Theme | Martha Argerich (piano), Daniel Barenboim (piano)
Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim perform Franz Schubert’s 8 Variations on an Original Theme in A-flat major, op. 35, D. 813 for piano 4 hands at Berlin’s Philharmonie in 2014.
Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim are both originally from Buenos Aires, where they first met as children. They were also both child prodigies who went on to establish long and universally acclaimed careers. They are also both humanitarians, and share a special interest in chamber music, with a repertoire spanning from the classics to modernism. Argerich and Barenboim’s many affinities translate into a captivating musical rapport. Here, two of the world’s greatest pianists perform a classic of the duet literature, Schubert’s Variations on an Original Theme in A-flat major, recorded at a hotly anticipated recital in Berlin in 2014.
