Denver Teens’ Rock-Throwing Night Ends in Murder Conviction
Joseph Koenig, an eighteen-year-old from Colorado, was convicted of first-degree murder after a rock-throwing incident resulted in the death of Alexa Bartell. Koenig, along with Zachary Kwak and Nicholas Karol-Chik, threw rocks at passing cars for amusement. One rock, thrown by Koenig, shattered Bartell's windshield, killing the twenty-year-old instantly. While his accomplices took plea deals and testified against him, Koenig was found guilty of deliberately causing her death. Despite the defense's argument of reckless teenage behavior and mental health issues, Koenig now faces a mandatory life sentence. Bartell’s family mourns their senseless loss, and the other teens await sentencing.
