Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum Interviews Air Supply- February 8, 1981
A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987.
This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on February 8, 1981, on the ABC.
This clip features an interview of Australian band Air Supply (Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock) conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum in studio, straight after their performance of their hit single 'Every Woman In The World'.
The interview begins with a discussion about Air Supply's chart success in the United States, with three Top 3 songs in 1980. They also discuss their forthcoming world tour. Molly also discusses their phenomenal success, surpassing that of Rod Stewart. Molly concludes the interview by leading into Adam & The Ants hit single 'Ant Music'.
Vaxfacts: When interviewing Graham and Russell, Molly mentions that he can't believe that he sold suitcases at Myer, to which Russell corrected him, saying it was Buckley's (Buckley & Nunn). Buckley & Nunn was a famous department store in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, with two stores on Bourke Street, in the heart of Melbourne's Central Business District. Buckley & Nunn was a competitor to other Australian department store chains David Jones and Myer, right up until 1982, when it was taken over by David Jones. The main store, even though it has been David Jones for over 30 years, still features the original Buckley & Nunn building signage, and can be seen here:
