Redfourth Chorus (Upper Hill School Choir) - Ananijali (Cover)

When Filah Philip Tuju started the Redfourth Chorus, his vision was that the choir will bring together people across the world through real stories. One of the songs he has always loved and thought of covering was #Ananijali by Andy Mburu. The song to him always carried a sincerity that he interpreted was a young man's total supplication to God.
When Andy Mburu gave permission for Redfourth Chorus to cover the song, Filah needed to know the real inspiration behind the song. This was Andy Mburu's honest answer.

"Well..the truth is, there is no story behind the song. At least not while I was writing it.
If you ask around most people will tell you that it's was written and sung by this amazing guy who just having lost his dear wife (who died 3 months after their wedding day), jumped into the studio and put pen to paper and this amazing song was recorded.
It isn't so. And I try and clarify this every chance I get. See, years ago, in 2005 to be precise, I was fooling around with a guitar while in uni and this chord progression kept hitting me. So one day I decided I'm gonna put some lyrics to it. And I did. But never had I had lyrics 'given' to me that way. I'm a song writer, yes, (and I know the process of song writing...have even attended college in Sydney Australia to sharpen this gift) but this one just happened. I started writing and the song was done in 15 minutes.
So over the years I'd play it every so often in different settings. Thing is I couldn't afford studio time back then. But just after my fiance and I got married in Sept 09, I went into the studio and recorded it. She'd just gotten a good job 2 weeks before our wedding day. So we finally could afford to record. That's how we spent the first 15K of that salary.
Long story short, Priscilla , my wife, passed away on Dec 4th 2009. She was hit by a truck outside the Junction mall. Died an hour later in hospital. We'd been married for 90days. The song was played for the first time at her funeral. She's the one who made sure that I put it out there.
Before her death, it was a nice song that I would sing to hopefully encourage others. But when she died, the song had to become flesh in my life. The song was going viral yet I couldnt stand it myself. Infact it took me a while to listen to it from start to finish.
It probably explains why I have never done a video. Usanii (becoming a recognized artist) opened up for me at a time when all I wanted to do was grieve privately."

He finishes by saying,

"I think in life's toughest seasons, we sing truth to instruct and remind our hearts what only our mind know to be true...cause we don't feel that truth. I think that's what this song is about."

Andy has since remarried to his wife Bella Mburu and is father two amazing Children.
