NOTE: Hypatia (ΥΠΑΤΙΑ), 355 – 415 AD, was a renowned Greek Hellenistic Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician in Alexandria, Egypt. As the earliest notable female mathematician, she led the Neoplatonist school, taught elite students.Hypatia was brutally murdered by a mob of fanatical Christians (known as the Parabalani) and monks, led by a lector named Peter, in 415 AD in Alexandria. Her murder occurred following incitement or political tension involving the Patriarch of Alexandria, Cyril.
