What was the problem with the patient?

This patient came to Richardsons Dental and Craniofacial Hospital, with his mouth, stuck open. He just yelled at someone and this happened!! He tried to do something, also his relatives tried something - whatever they could and then went to a nearby hospital ( nursing home ) - From there he was referred here to Richardsons Dental and Craniofacial Hospital.
Dr. Sunil Richardson examined him, and a diagnosis of acute temporomandibular joint dislocation was made.

What was the treatment?

This is the age-old technique describes as the Hippocrates method. If done correctly, takes a few seconds and gives the patient immediate relief. The treatment is precise and it’s anatomical reduction. The jaw is pushed downwards and backward... and the muscles do the rest.

Will it recur?
In a few percentages of patients, this rescuer and then it needs a surgical fix. But in most of the patients, this doesn’t recur. Proper advice is given immediately after reduction to prevent further such dislocations...

What if it’s chronic?

Then again, surgery needs to be done. Joint surgery in the TMJ is done by Dr. Sunil Richardson in a very safe and predictable fashion. The joint is approached via a tiny opening and the surgery is performed.
