In Session | Veterans' Mental Health
Veterans Day is this Friday, November 11th. This is a day not only to honor those who have fought courageously, but also to empower our nation’s heroes through their transition back into civilian life.
In recognition of Veterans Day, this month’s In Session episode is with Mike Kenny and Sid Ellington. Mike is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and retired from the US Army in 2015 as a special forces lieutenant colonel with over 22 years of service to the nation. He is now the Executive Director at Warriors’ Ascent, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Kansas City, Missouri founded and run by veterans to help veterans, service members, and first responders who are struggling with Post Traumatic Stress(PTS).
Sid Ellington is a Retired Navy SEAL Officer and a Professor of Practice in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma where he teaches courses in Nonprofit and Nongovernmental Organizations. He is a gubernatorial appointee to the Oklahoma State Department of Veterans Affairs Board of Commissioners and he also serves as a Strategic Advisor for the Courage Foundation. Similar to Warriors’ Ascent, the Courage Foundation’s mission is to foster post-traumatic growth, restore purpose and transform lives through integrative self-awareness, physical health, mental toughness, emotional resilience and spiritual well-being.
BetterHelp has also partnered with the Courage Foundation to provide 50 3-month therapy vouchers to members of their program and with Warriors’ Ascent to provide 150 3-month therapy vouchers to their attendees.
