Topology optimized bicycle frame - Design and Fabrication
This video shows in detail the process of simulating, designing, engineering, fabricating and testing a topology optimized bicycle frame. The short version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFJM01jFWa0
3D-printed moulds were used to fabricate the shapes obtained by simulation-based design. A metal matrix composite was cast to further improve the stiffness-to-weight ratio. In addition to the FEA and CAD software, also computer-aided material selection, tensile testing, fractography and radiography was utilised.
