Same Name - Different Game : Sega Arcade Games That Were Very Different at Home

Often a high end arcade game would need to have changes made to be brought home to consoles. Sometimes these games would be fundamentally changed in gameplay, graphics, genre, sound, art design, or all of the above. In this episode, we will look at some of those games from Sega. Hope you guys enjoy it!

Episode Notes:

1. The music for each game is from one of the games covered in that segment. The only exceptions were Enduro Racer, were I used music from the arcade Super Hang On, and I used the music from the Sega Ages 2500 Golden Axe in the opening segment.

2. I used Golden Axe The Revenge of Death Adder and Golden Axe II in the opening set to give an example of how Sega would redesign a similar game between the two platforms.

3. I didn't want to simply cover games that had downgraded graphics from the arcade version. I wanted games where the actual design would change the experience entirely.

4. This series could easily be extended to cover more Genesis, Master System and Game Gear games. Sega often would make their 8-bit versions a radically different experience.
Opening Sega theme is from Astal for the Sega Saturn. Ending theme is from Batman for the Sega Genesis. Opening animation done by Kevin Bhall.
