Why does it take us YEARS to reach Mercury?

Why does it take us YEARS to reach Mercury? 🤔 Because getting to Mercury isn’t about distance, it’s about speed. Spacecraft must slow down a lot to avoid falling into the Sun and match Mercury’s fast orbit, which takes years and multiple gravity assists.

Mercury ~6.5 years - MESSENGER (2004–2011)
Venus ~4–5 months - Mariner 2 (1962)
Mars ~7 months - Perseverance (2020–2021)
Jupiter ~5–6 years - Juno (2011–2016)
Saturn ~6–7 years - Cassini–Huygens (1997–2004)
Uranus ~9 years - Voyager 2 (1977–1986)
Neptune ~12 years - Voyager 2 (1977–1989)

Times vary depending on trajectory, speed, and planet positions!
