Q) I often see people coming to church late on Sundays and Holy days, sometimes they come only in time to receive communion, at what point during the Mass has one totally missed the Mass and is required to go again?
A) Going from the Church's teaching that the Eucharist is an integral celebration.. the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist constitute one single act of Worship.. you better get there for the Liturgy of the Word, that's an essential part of the Eucharist.

So my advice on it is get there before the Readings start certainly, try to get there before that, but at least before the Readings start.. because if you miss the Liturgy of the Word, or most of it, then you've missed that which is an essential part of that single act of worship. ~Fr.
