Why I Am Moving Away From Fujifilm Cameras - Goodbye XT3, XH2S, GFX 50S II
This may be a boring video and it wasn’t a fun video to make but I know I will be asked so this is why I won’t be using Fujifilm cameras anymore for my photography. It takes a lot of time to completely change camera systems and it can be expensive but I feel that I have made the right decision. IMPORTANT NOTE: This isn’t a video about issues or faults with a product/s. This video is about what happens when things go wrong and you need help from the manufacturer to put things right.
I think (and hope!) most people who watch this video will not feel a need to know what camera faults I experienced but if anyone wonders why I didn’t discuss them here is my completely innocent reasoning:
1) I’m no longer using Fujifilm cameras because of the issues I had with their repairs department and general bad customer service. It’s not because of the camera faults so I didn’t want to waste time discussing them in what I knew before I started would be a long video. Also note that I summarised other things to save time which had nothing to do with camera faults.
2) I feel any camera (or car, television etc.) may unfortunately have a fault when new or develop some over time, it is how a company deals with them that is important. My whole issue and video is based around that principle.
3) I genuinely feel the faults themselves are not important, they are not common faults unique to Fuji cameras, and I’ve found on the internet other people experiencing the same faults on different makes of camera. I didn’t want to cause even one single person concern over their own Fuji camera and have them checking to see if it has the faults that mine did. There are faults being reported and discussed on the internet about all camera makes all the time, there is nothing special or alarming about mine that I felt a need to alert people to.
4) On the same theme as point 3 I didn’t want to spark any debate about camera faults or have things grow arms and legs. I simply wanted anyone interested (and any surprised subscribers) to know why I won’t be using Fuji cameras anymore and it’s nothing to do with the faults. Had I received service from the repairs department to a good normal standard I’d still be using the cameras. If you are a subscriber or friend you will know I loved those cameras.
5) I cover a number of issues I had with the repairs department which are nothing to do with camera faults - for one example I had issues with an online application that the repairs department are responsible for. Customer service was always more important to me than camera faults hence my focus on that.
6) At the point of making the video I was tired of all the struggles I’d had over a prolonged period with the Fuji UK repairs department. I just wanted to move on and get back to photography without these hassles. It’s expensive and a real hassle to completely change camera brands. I just didn’t want to get into discussion about camera faults nor did I think it would matter if I did or didn’t. I just wanted people to know why, in the future when you see me with a new camera, the reason why.
Also, I want to point out that the camera faults are not a secret, it’s completely innocent that I didn’t go into detail about them. They were at the time of making the video, and still are today, completely irrelevant to me. However I said in the video I wasn’t going to go into detail about them OR about discussions I had with Fujifilm via phone, e-mail etc. and I asked politely for that to be understood and respected. I said I wasn’t going to go into more detail if anyone asked me (frankly the issues I’ve had disappoint me and I am tired and frustrated by it). So if someone decides to ignore that and ask me, I’m not going to go back on my word and cover it to make them happy. Why even ask me to go against my wishes? Thanks for your understanding.
