I get SO many questions about my major, and how I handle college so young. So I thought I would share my BIGGEST NEWS... that I just landed my first internship in Neuroscience! For this #storytime, I will give you some very valuable advice. You want to be successful in your chose career, right? Well, next to schooling, having an #internship on your resume is a pretty big deciding factor for many employers or post-graduate #college programs when deciding to hire you or accept you into their schools. It may be the one thing that tips the scale in your favor as they look to fill the position. If you know what you want to major in, start working on this EARLY.

An internship is basically like a part-time job for an employer, it can be either paid or non-paid (for college credit), where you apply the knowledge you have been learning in a "hands on" and "real life" setting. You learn on the job, and an employer can use your time in the internship to determine if you are a good fit for their company long term.

Internships are VERY coveted, because there are so many students applying for a relatively small number of positions. My BIGGEST recommendation is to start early. If you are looking for a summer internship, start looking in January or even earlier.

The next big tip is to NETWORK LIKE CRAZY through your family and friends. Many of them may know someone who had a business or practice in your area of study. Sometimes your best impression is one left by someone else who is reliable and can vouch for you, NOT your resume.
