September 16th Is the Anniversary of Mahsa Amini's Death

September 16th marks 1 year since Mahsa Jina Amini died after being arrested, beaten and detained by Iran’s “morality police” for allegedly wearing her headscarf incorrectly with some of her hair being visible. ⁠

Amini’s death, and the harassment and violence faced by millions of other women in Iran like Amini, sparked a wave of protests across the country. Women have been removing their headscarves, burning them, and cutting off their hair in acts of incredible bravery and solidarity, amid what has been reported as the largest anti-regime movement in Iran since 2019. And this movement has now spread around the world. Millions of people are taking to the streets to make their thoughts on this perpetrated violence against women known. ⁠_____________________________________________________________________
