How To Make A Li Ion Battery Pack From Street E-Waste
You find street e-waste everywhere because people are generally messy and don't use dustbins. I collected a pile from Download festival this year. I decided to use the batteries inside to replace the innards on a dead PP9 9v battery which normally fits into my vintage radios. I go through the steps to break the batteries out of the discarded units and marry them up to a very cheap Battery Management module from China to make a variable voltage power pack for very little cost.
The Battery Management System was purchased here https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFq1J0f the price can vary from your location and exchange rates as with any purchase from China. The tax is taken at source for UK customers so add 20% to the cost.
The batteries used in this are lithium cells salvaged from vapour inhalation devices (youtube do not like the common name as it isn't advertiser friendly! You can actually use any onther lithium rechareable cell including 18650 cells salvaged from old laptop batteries. If you use smaller cells it might be wise to change the charge rate resistor to a 2k or similar to reduce the input current and prevent overheating of the cell.
