Truck Won’t Start. Alternator or Battery Issue? Here’s My Quick Test!

So I’ve been trying to troubleshoot my truck not starting and I tested the battery which appeared to be doing fine. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t the alternator without spending money on replacing an alternator or parts that aren’t actually bad. So I thought I’d share with you what I decided to do to test the alternator. As a disclaimer, I’m not a professional mechanic and I do know some sources suggest this method could be harmful to vehicle components. I didn’t see any immediate issues nor have had any issues as result of this test on my truck. It was a clear and simple and free way to check the alternator functioning because I assumed the alternator was not my issue with the vehicle not starting but I wanted to make sure. Hopefully this is helpful to some. Otherwise, here’s where I’m at so far with figuring out why my Chevy Silverado truck randomly won’t start and strands me in the mountains!
