The Impenetrable Ship That Took Germany Decades to Sink

On the afternoon of November 24, 1941, the 1st Battle Squadron embarked on a mission. The mighty Queen Elizabeth and Valiant accompanied the formidable flagship Barham and, in turn, guarded by a fleet of eight destroyers, set out to intercept Italian convoys in the vast expanse of the Central Mediterranean.

Beneath the surface, a lurking danger awaited. The German submarine U-331, under the skilled command of Oberleutnant zur See Hans-Diedrich von Tiesenhausen, lay in wait. As the muffled echoes of the British ships' engines reached the attentive ears of the U-331 crew, the stage was set for an encounter. Unbeknownst to the unsuspecting sailors above, the silent hunter prepared to pounce.

Amidst the chaos, aboard Valiant stood a humble reporter, an unassuming witness to the unfolding drama. He would capture one of the most visually impressive recordings of the war, one that would make sure Barham was remembered forever.
