Cisco Banner MOTD, Login, Exec and Incoming Explained Secure Your Network Like a Pro! #ccnp #ccna
🔹 `banner motd #Your message#`
* **Purpose**: Sets the **Message of the Day (MOTD)** banner that is displayed to all users before login.
* **Explanation**:
* `banner motd` – The command to define a Message of the Day banner.
* `#` – Delimiter symbol (you can use any symbol that does **not appear in your message**).
* `Your message` – The actual message that users will see upon connecting to the device.
* Final `#` – Tells the router you’ve ended the message.
**Example**:
```bash
banner motd #Unauthorized access is prohibited.#
```
---
### 🔹 `banner login #Your login warning#`
* **Purpose**: Sets a **login banner** that appears **after the MOTD banner** but **before password prompt**.
* **Explanation**:
* `banner login` – Indicates this is the login-specific warning message.
* Everything else works the same as MOTD.
**Example**:
```bash
banner login #Only authorized users may proceed. Violators will be prosecuted.#
```
---
### 🔹 `banner exec #Your message#`
* **Purpose**: Displays a message **after successful login**, when user accesses **EXEC mode**.
* **Explanation**:
* `banner exec` – Targets users entering EXEC mode.
* Good for welcome messages or security reminders.
**Example**:
```bash
banner exec #Welcome to Xcore Network. Please adhere to security policies.#
```
---
### 🔹 `banner incoming #Message for incoming connections#`
* **Purpose**: Display message **for reverse Telnet sessions** (rarely used).
* **Explanation**:
* Used mainly on devices where users connect **into terminal lines**.
* Not commonly required in modern network environments.
**Example**:
```bash
banner incoming #Reverse Telnet Session Initiated.#
```
