Oil Painting Demonstration | Alla-Prima Approach

In this still life painting video we will use the Alla-Prima technique (wet on wet) to build a still life. With this approach we will use simple flat values of color to start with and then build the specificity on top of that. This approach is very simple, yet effective.

The materials used in this video are listed below,

Panel: 11x14" Cotton Canvas Panel (very cheap). I believe the brand simply stated "great value pack". I toned it with burnt umber oil paint several days prior to filming.

Williamsburg- Flake White
Winsor & Newton- Titanium White
Winsor & Newton- Burnt Umber
Gamblin- Alizarin Crimson Permanent
Winsor & Newton- Cadmium Red Medium
Gamblin- Yellow Ochre
Grumbacher- Cadmium Yellow Deep
Gamblin- Cadmium Green
Winsor & Newton-Sap Green
Gamblin- Cobalt Teal
Winsor & Newton- Ultramarine Blue
Winsor & Newton- Ivory Black

Painting Medium: Gamblin Neo-Megilp
Mineral Spirits: Mona Lisa brand

Charcoal:
Winsor & Newton: Medium vine charcoal

Brushes Used:
Master's Touch size 6 filbert bristle synthetic mix (the drawing brush)
Master’s Touch Size 1 Round and 0 Round (the tiny orange brush)
Princeton Summit 2 Round 6100R (the green one)
Master's Touch Size 6 Flat Bristle Brush and 4 filbert
Princeton Catalyst Polytip Bristle Size 4 Filbert
