Louisiana lawmakers set to redraw congressional map after Supreme Court ruling

Louisiana state legislators are expected to begin redrawing the state's congressional district map on Friday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the current map unconstitutional because it was drawn on the basis of race, leaving early votes for the May 16 partisan primary in question. Congressman Cleo Fields, who represents Louisiana's 6th District, expressed frustration during a visit to Lafayette on Wednesday about the uncertainty facing voters who have already cast ballots. The Supreme Court ruling that a congressional district based on race is unconstitutional has raised questions about whether other district-based entities, such as school boards and police juries, are now under the redistricting microscope.
