1947 Hawksley BL8 Prefabricated House

This House is in Beech Close at Hamble in Hampshire , England. Built in 1947 , they were accomodation for the Instructors (Air Service Training ) and their families at the local Airfield (or so I believe) . I am told that they were of an American design ? but I have not been able to confirm this . Built around a wooden frame and clad with aluminium sheeting they were meant to be temporary but many still survive to this day around Britain. Although from the front view they look a modest size the biggest surprise is when you go inside.... They are a 3 bedroom semi detached with separate bathroom and toilet and have a large living room and decent size kitchen. Not many of them survive in their original condition as most have been altered or upgraded , but this one is 99% original . At one time I believe their may have been hundreds of these in Hamble and surrounding areas , but now only these 4 survive. It seems people these days are obsessed with bricks and mortar and those who have never lived in a house like this will tell you they are cold or damp when nothing could be further from the truth. They were and still are a warm cosy spacious home (just ask anybody who lives in one) .
