The New Delhi Railway Station, India’s busiest and most iconic railway hub, is now undergoing a massive ₹2200 crore redevelopment to transform it into a world-class multimodal transport centre. This ambitious project by Indian Railways aims to completely redesign the century-old NDLS into a modern, smart, and sustainable infrastructure hub — offering an airport-like travel experience right in the heart of Delhi. This redevelopment project is being executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) in collaboration with HG Infra Engineering Ltd at a cost of ₹2195 crore. The expected completion timeline is around 45 months (by 2027). The new station will feature a world-class air concourse, multi-level parking, a transit-oriented design (TOD model), and direct connectivity to metro, bus, and airport routes — making it one of India’s first true multimodal hubs. Once completed, it will handle over 5 lakh passengers daily, symbolizing a new era of urban travel in India.

Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.
