Lecture - Johan Galtung @ UCSIA Chair Peace Education 2016
Lecture by prof. dr. Johan Galtung on 21 April 2016 at the University of Antwerp (Belgium).
Johan Galtung (°1930, Oslo) is the founder of the discipline of peace studies. He established the International Peace Research Institute Oslo, Oslo (1959), the forerunner of many similar research centers. He also set up the Journal of Peace Research and he is currently the president of the Galtung-Institute for Peace Theory and Practice.
His work has a unique imprint on many scholarly disciplines; it is a combination of systematic scientific inquiry and a Gandhian ethics of peaceful means and harmony. His many honorary doctorates and distinctions do not restrain him from being active and committed.
Prof. Galtung discussed nationalism and migration in relation to peace.
