Melissani Cave (or Melissani Lake), Kefalonia, Greece

Melissani Cave or Melissani Lake is one of the most beautiful places and attractions of the Greek island of Kefalonia. In Greek mythology, Melissani was the Cave of the Nymphs.
It was forgotten for many centuries until 1951, when the Greek Giannis Petrocheilos rediscovered it.
The cave with the lake in the middle is surrounded by forest. The water of Melissani Lake has a blue color and its bottom is rocky.
The entire cave is 3.5 km long, 36 m high and 40 m wide. The biggest attraction of Melissani is the lake on which boats float, admiring both limestone formations and the forest surrounding the cave-in.
