CCTV Shows Moment Before Serious N3 Crash Near Mariannhill

CCTV footage has revealed the moments leading up to a serious multi-vehicle crash on the N3 near the Mariannhill Toll Plaza.

The video shows a side tipper truck carrying maize travelling downhill towards Durban shortly before the incident. As the truck completes an overtaking manoeuvre and returns to the fast lane, it appears to be moving at a significant speed for the conditions.

Moments later, the trailer begins to tip and then rolls over, causing the entire truck combination to lose stability.

The vehicle then breaks through the centre median barrier and crosses into the northbound lanes, creating a dangerous situation for oncoming traffic.

The crash resulted in multiple injuries and caused major traffic disruptions. Emergency services responded to the scene, with paramedics treating the injured and recovery teams working to clear the wreckage.

Authorities later reviewed CCTV footage and other evidence as part of an ongoing investigation into what caused the truck to lose control.
