136 MPH with Just 100 HP? The Aerodynamic Cheat Code! 🤯

136 MPH with just 1.0 litre? Meet the Abarth “Principessa” – the aerodynamic masterpiece that shattered 9 world records in 1960! 🤯 This is the 1960 Fiat-Abarth 1000 Monoposto da Record, affectionately known as “La Principessa” (The Princess). Designed by Pininfarina and developed in the Turin Polytechnic wind tunnels, this silver needle was a hand-sculpted technical marvel.

At just 1.2 meters tall and over 4.5 meters long, every curve was engineered to slice through the air on the Monza Autodrome’s high-speed oval. Its tiny 1.0-litre twin-cam engine produced around 108 HP, pushing the car to a top speed of 136 mph (220 km/h) and breaking nine international world records, including a 72-hour endurance run averaging 187 km/h.

Legendary driver Umberto Maglioli even pushed the car across the finish line by hand in heavy rain during the record attempt—securing Abarth’s place in automotive history. Today, “La Principessa” is an unrestored time capsule and one of the most valuable classics in existence, valued at $1–1.5 million.

Watch, listen, and marvel at the aerodynamic cheat code of a bygone era.
