6 TOXIC mindsets that put us into $160,000 of DEBT in our early TWENTIES!

As crazy as it sounds, we would say we “wandered” our way into $160,000 worth of debt (in our early twenties), before deciding to get serious about it…and pay it all back over a 5 year period. The majority of it was paid off in just 2 years! I say we “wandered” into it because as much as $160,000 dollars is, it really didn’t FEEL like we had terrible spending habits...it felt like we were just living like everyone else! Truth is, we had a TERRIBLE spending problem! Here’s a reflection of the 6 TOXIC mindsets that put us in that position.

1. No real concept of re-payment obligations
2. You “HAVE” to go into debt to go to school
3. I’ve got the credit, so I can “afford” it
4. If it’s 0% interest, it’s not a big deal
5. I “deserve” this (debt rationalizations)
6. Hubby did it so why can’t I? (Hubby: I owe her that)

Talking about money is generally taboo, but it shouldn’t be. How can anyone make any real progress if we’re all afraid to talk about the things that are holding us back? Everyone is suffering in silence because everyone thinks that they’re the only one suffering. It doesn’t have to be that way…

►We met (and dated!) in the 7th Grade at Lincoln Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri in 2007. We got married in 2014 and are now coming up on 6 years of marriage!

#6 HOW MUCH DEBT DID YOU SAY YOU PAID OFF?
►In only 24 months, we paid off $125,000.00 worth of debt which included ALL credit cards, BOTH brand new cars, BOTH his and her degrees, and the TINY HOUSE itself!
