Hurricane Warnings Issued Ahead of Hurricane Laura

Laura has become a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico today, and has had hurricane warnings issued in both Texas and Louisiana ahead of its potential path. Laura is in favorable conditions for further strengthening, and forecast to become a major hurricane by the National Hurricane Center before making landfall in either far eastern Texas or in western Louisiana early on Thursday.

Impacts from Laura in the United States may be life threatening, and could include a storm surge of 9-13 feet east of the landfall location, 6-10 inches of rainfall with a much wider area of 4-6 inches of rainfall that can cause flash flooding not just on the coast, but potentially hundreds of miles inland, and of course hurricane force sustained winds. Please listen to your local officials, your local weather office, and the National Hurricane Center for information on your exact location, and make sure you're taking the proper precautionary measures ahead of Laura.
