Río Usumacinta | Sacred Monkey River | Rafting Expedition

12 undergraduate students embark on an expedition down 88.5 miles of the 'Usu' from Frontera Corozal, Chiapas to Boca del Cerro, Tabasco. After looking at interactions with mass tourism in Cancún we spent time in Villahermosa, Palenque and then 7 days rafting the Río Usumacinta. The journey had several highlights including the Mayan cities of Yaxchilán and Piedras Negras, cenotes, lagoons, waterfalls, and giant river beaches along the banks of Chiapas, México and Guatemala.
