In this episode of Observers Direct, Gaelle Faure heads to Israel to meet with our Observer Anwar Suliman.
Anwar fled fighting in Darfur to find refuge in Israel. He is not alone - over the last decade, tens of thousands of people have fled from Sudan and Eritrea to seek asylum in Israel. However, as with many others, the Israeli government has yet to answer his asylum request. After letting him live freely for several years on temporary visas, the authorities have sent Anwar and thousands more to a giant detention centre in the middle of the Negev desert.
